Microsoft 365 Spam Filter - Spam reporting

How do I report spam and phishing emails to Microsoft to automatically improve my spam filter?

Personal spam whitelist and blacklist: If you want to adjust your spam filter and phishing yourself, you can whitelist and backlist senders by following this guide: Microsoft 365 spam filter - whitelist and blacklist

There are 2 buttons in Outlook that can be used if you find you have received spam or phishing emails.

The buttons are located at the top of the "Home/Home" tab in Outlook and are called "Report Phishing" and "Report Message"

Phishing mail

A phishing email is an email that is sent to you to lure information out of you, such as passwords, account information or similar. The sender pretends to be someone other than they are - for example, someone you would normally trust.

How do you identify a phishing email?
Identifying a phishing email can be difficult, but here are some things to look out for:

  • Use your common sense: Do they normally send this type of email to you? Does the email contain links that the sender wants you to click on?
  • Spelling errors: The authors may have used a translation service to translate the email into Danish, and the text may therefore contain proofreading or spelling errors.
  • Check with the sender: Before ordering anything or clicking on links in the email, it's a good idea to contact the sender to verify the credibility of the email.
  • Check which email address the email is being sent from: It's not enough to just look at the display name at the top of the email. Right-click on the display name and check that it is the correct email address.

How do you report a phishing email?

Select the email in question (1) and press Report Phishing (2).

Pressure Report (3)

Spam mails

Spam is unsolicited emails that are sent out in bulk and are usually looking for your money.

The spam button works in the same way as the phishing button, only here you have more options.
It can be used for both spam that has passed through the filter and spam that hasn't yet.

The advantage of this reporting is that the spam filter automatically adjusts based on what you have reported as spam. The reason for this is that when you send your mail to Microsoft for analysis, your mail flow is improved.

Select the email in question (4) and press Report Message (5) and then select which category you want to report it as.
