Accessing Remote Desktop from Mac

How do I access Remote Desktop (WTS) from Mac?

Start App Store program, located at the bottom of the Docking.

Search for Microsoft Remote Desktop and click Install (1).

When the program is fully installed, the program will start automatically. If not, it can always be started by selecting Go to in the main menu (2) and then the folder Programmer (3).

You can create a shortcut to the application in the Dock by right-clicking on Microsoft RD program icon in the Dock (4) and select Settings (5) > Keep in Dock (6).

Important! There are two ways to access the Remote Desktop from Mac:

  • Method 1: You have been sent an RDP icon from the IT Forum Group
  • Method 2: You must enter the RDP information yourself

Method 1: Sent RDP icon

Copy the RDP icon to a location on your Mac computer such as the desktop.

Open up Microsoft Remote Desktop.

Click on the gear wheel (1) and select Import from RDP file... (2)

Double-click on RDP access.

Enter your email address and password for the remote desktop.

You will now be logged in.

It is possible to access resources on your local Mac from the server/remote desktop:

Access from server to local printer: To print to your home printer, click Devices & Audio (14) and check the box Printers (15).

However, this generally requires the printer driver to be installed on the server. Read more about this under Home printer at the bottom of this guide.

Access to your local clipboard: Check the box Clipboard (16).

Access from server to local drives: To access your local drives, click on Folders(17) and check the box Redirect folders (18). Then click on + (19). Now add the local drives you want to access from the remote desktop.

Finish by clicking on Add to cart (20).

Microsoft Remote Desktop is now fully configured.

To log in to the remote desktop, double-click on Hosting (21) in the open window. You must now enter your personal password for the server and you will be logged in.

Keyboard: Some specialty symbols have changed location:

  • @ is located in the same place as regular Windows keyboard Alt + Ctrl + 2.
  • \ is located in the same place as a regular Windows keyboard. Alt + Ctrl + .

Home printer: Printer drivers installed on MAC OS can, by default not communicate with the Windows server's identical drivers, but there have been cases where this has been successful.

Contact our Hotline support@itf.dk or tel. 7023 0028 if you want to attempt a printer installation. This work is done on an hourly rate.
